Competition Background:
Located at the mysterious North Latitude 18°, LingShui in Hainan conceals a continuous 500-year-old historical and cultural heritage. The Tanka Families living here make their livelihood from the sea, considering the sea as their home. They are often referred to as the "Gypsies of the Sea," and the Tanka fishing rows are recognized as an intangible cultural heritage conservation project in Hainan Province.
Under the theme "LingShui Sea Nomadic Imagination," we are launching an open competition for the spatial design of the sea-based fishing rows. The objective of the competition is to enhance the living standards of the sea villagers, protect the local Tanka cultural identity and create a sustainable fishing industrial operation.
Site Introduction:
Lingshui New town's Sihai Lake, where the Tanka Families' fishing rows are located, is approximately 218.6 kilometers away from Haikou City in Hainan Province and about 64.8 kilometers away from Sanya City. Currently, the New Town has 456 fishing row households and 1,475 ships, with over 5,000 people living and working at sea throughout the year.
